Abstract

Nanostructured, semitransparent and highly conducting nickel oxide thin films were grown on heated substrates kept in vacuum using pulsed laser ablation. Formation of nanoislands, consisting of self-assembly of nanocrystals, following Stranski-Krastanov type growth in thin nickel oxide films is reported. X-ray diffraction studies indicate presence of mixed phases Ni(OH)2 , γ-NiOOH, and Ni2O3 with grain size 17 nm, in films prepared at 673 K. Films deposited at 773 K showed a resistivity of 3.097 × 10-5 Ω m and transmittance of 46% at 550 nm..
