Abstract
An experimental study of the membrane bending elasticity of human erythrocyte ghosts is presented. The bending modulus was determined by analysing the shape fluctuations of quasi-spherical ghosts. The obtained results show that: i) the bending elasticity of erythrocyte ghosts is equal to several times the Boltzmann factor and ii) it belongs to the lower part of the existing interval of experimental values, reported in the literature for the bending elasticity of red blood cell membranes..
