Structure and magnetic properties of some Cr-substituted manganites

Abstract

The purpose of the present work is to study the modification induced by the substitution of Mn with Cr on the structure and magnetic properties of the La0.54Ho0.11Sr0.35Mn1-xCrxO3 manganites. The phase composition of the samples was monitorized by XRD, by using a diffractometer with a data acquisition system, at room temperature. Results concerning the samples crystallography were obtained by means of CellRef/CechCell and FullProf programs. The magnetic properties of the samples were performed by means of a Foner-type magnetometer, with data acquisition system, at 1 T, between 77 and 500 K. Transport properties were investigated by using a four probe method, at Hmax=2 T. The samples contain only a perovskite phase, the volume of the lattice cell remaining practically unchanged with the increase of the Cr concentration in the samples. The Curie temperatures are very close or higher as room temperature. The maximum of the specific magnetization depend on the Cr concentration in the samples. The presence of Cr in the B site lattice leads to a decrease of the specific (molecular) magnetization..
