Synthesis of fluorene copolymer with persilylated γ-cyclodextrin in the main chain

Abstract

Polyfluorene copolymers with and without persilylated γ-cyclodextrin (γ-CD) threaded onto the main chain were synthesized by using the well-known Suzuki copolymerization of 2,7-dibromofluorene/persilylated γ-CD inclusion complex or 2,7- dibromofluorene with 9,9-dioctylfluorene-2,7-bis(trimethyleneborate) catalysed by tetrakis-(triphenylphosphin)-palladium (0) in heterogeneous conditions. By using a 50:50 molar ratio between comonomers, copolymers having alternating substituted and non substituted fluorene units were obtained. The copolymers were characterized by 1H-NMR, IR, GPC, TGA, UV-Vis and AFM analyses. The fluorescence spectra of the copolymers exhibit typical well resolved blue emission bands arisen from the fluorene chromophore units..
