Abstract
A plasmonic sensor utilizing a soft-glass photonic crystal fiber (PCF) with two liquid cores is developed for temperature sensing over a -50–40 °C range. This sensor incorporates a central air hole coated with a thin gold film to achieve surface plasmon resonance (SPR) in the mid-infrared (MIR) spectral range. A comprehensive theoretical analysis of its detection properties indicates that the sensor can perform single-resonance sensing across the MIR range of 3.0-3.4 μm while accommodating temperature variations from -50 to 40 °C. It demonstrates a peak sensitivity of 6.30 nm/°C and a high temperature resolution of 0.0159 °C. Furthermore, within the range of -50–40 °C, it exhibits an average sensitivity of 3.6958 nm/°C and achieves a high linearity coefficient of 0.9963. As a result, this study opens new possibilities for applying PCF-based SPR technology to MIR temperature sensing..
